Pro Independence parties win elections in Catalonia
Convergència i Unió, coalition lead by Artur Mas, and Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya win the Catalan elections with a high turnout. A new pro independence party, Candidatura d'Unitat Popular obtains 3 MPs too. CiU wins with a clear majority of 50 MPs. The second party of the Parliament will be ERC. Unionist parties lose one MP. Pro referendum parties have 84 MPs; anti referendum lists only 51.
According to Spanish news, the CiU have not got a majority to start off a referendum. Is this true and will they need a coalition with Ezquerra as a result?
ResponEliminaCiU as a party win the elections and ERC is the second force in the Parliament. Both pro referendum and pro Indy. ICV and CUP are both pro referendum too. So, if you ask if CiU alone can start off a referendum the answer is not. But they have a big majority with ERC, ICV and CUP.
