Catalan National Assembly calls to swear Mr Puigdemont: "It is the result that endorses the ballot boxes"

The new chairman of the Catalan National Assemby (ANC in Catalan) answered the question after the big protest yesterday in Barcelona which was joined by dozens of thousands after the detention of Carles Puigdemont. Ms Paluzie has been clear: "There is a clear democratic majority and the cry of the rally was "Puigdemont, our president." The months have passed and they have not convinced the people to change it. It is the result that endorses the ballot boxes!".

Both Together for Catalonia (JxCat) and Candidacy for Popular Unity (CUP) agree to swear Mr Puigdemont as soon as possible. But they have 38 MPs out of 135. And the other pro independence party, Catalonia's Republican Left (ERC) is fearless of Spanish repression if Puigdemont is sworn. In spite of this JxCat ceded the Speaker of the Parliament post to an ERC member. The agreement included that a JxCat MP, Mr Puigdemont, would be sworn as President.
