Catalan Towns Declare Themselves Independent

On Monday, September 3rd, the town of Sant Pere de Torelló voted in favor of a motion for Catalonia's Declaration of Independence.

Jordi Fàbrega, the town's mayor, was the driving force behind the initiative, which resulted in the town becoming Catalonia's first to declare itself independent from Spain. Here is an excerpt from the motion:
Because of this, we turn to the Parliament of Catalonia, in general, and to all parliamentary groups, in particular, so that the Catalan chamber, unilaterally and to all effects, declare the full sovereignty of the Catalan nation, in preparation for the establishment of a free, independent, democratic, and social Catalan state.
Spanish laws and regulations will be applicable provisionally, pending the new laws created by the Catalan Parliament.

The City of Sant Pere de Torelló is asking that the Catalan Parliament unilaterally declare Catalonia's independence within two months.
