European Greens: Vidal-Quadras' statements are "scandalous"

Daniel Cohn-Bendit and Rebecca Harms, Co-Presidents of the Greens/EFA Group in the European Parliament have also condemned the recent remarks made by EP Vice-President Alejo Vidal Quadras on Spanish TV, in which he suggested sending the Spanish National Guard to Catalonia. Yesterday Guy Verhofstadt, leader of the Liberal and Democrat Group condemned the statements too. Quadras is being isolated.

Dear President,

Having received your response on the scandalous statements made by Mr Vidal Quadras, we take issue with your assertion that the statements made by Mr Vidal-Quadras have no relation to his function as Vice-President of the European Parliament.

As a Member and Vice-President of the European Parliament, it is clear that any public statements made by Mr Vidal-Quadras cannot be simply dismissed as "a personal opinion made in a national political context".

We would like to formally discuss this question at the next Conference of Presidents in Strasbourg.
