Isabel Buján, an Extremadura-born woman, recently posted a video on Youtube were she calls them as she sees them. She released the video in response to Extremadura's former president, Guillermo Fernández Vara, who proposed a mass deportation. Vara's big idea was to deport 150,000 Catalans of Extremaduran descent back to Extremadura. Such idea comes from a leading member of an, in theory, leftist and progressive plitical party—PSOE. Here is Isabel Buján's video, with subtitles in English. Below you can find the English translation.
I'm from Extremadura, from Jerte del Valle. We are nine siblings in total. All of us siblings came to Catalunya for good, except for one that moved to Bilbao instead.
We're all integrated in Catalunya, they have loved us immensely.
We have worked hard, but they have been kind to us.
If you think that we are going back to our homeland, you give us a home.
I have children, grandchildren and soon, I'm going to have great-grandchildren.
You just can't force me to go back to Extremadura because I don't feel like it, and I will simply refuse. I won't go.
And if you want people to go back to Extremadura, you'll have to provide them with work and a decent house, and then we'll find out how many people from Extremadura are willing to go back.
I don´t think too many will, because Catalonia has treated us very well.
We speak Catalan and we feel this is our home and if you do not like it, piss off!
