The British news broadcaster ITN screened a report on Catalonia a few days ago. Journalist James Mates explained that "for the millions of people who come here every year, this is Spain, but for those who live here, in Las Ramblas, this is Catalonia first, and then Spain". He added that "a million and a half people took the streets a few weeks ago asking for independence."
The report shows a press conference with President Artur Mas, describing him as a "charismatic and popular leader". President Mas responds to Mates' question on what would happen if Spain did not allow a referendum: "We must remember that the laws in Spain are not the only laws".
