A tree with Strong Roots

Catalan president Mas recently said that, "However much they holler and insult, we will maintain the spirit of dialogue."
Mr. Mas said that Catalonia is planting a tree that no gust of wind will bring down. He asked that Catalans have confidence and hope in the future because "however powerful the winds coming from the other side are, if we have the spirit of those who planted the Tàrrega trees a hundred years ago, these winds will come, but they will not knock us over, they will not sever any branches—and even less our roots."

Mr. Mas, who participated in the one hundred anniversary celebrations by the Friends of the Trees, stated that Catalonia remains determined in its national ambitions—but without losing the civic values that have always characterized this country.
"However much they holler, insult and do as they please, we must maintain our spirit and our values, which are pacifism, peaceful co-existence, the spirit of dialogue, and the willingness to seek consensus and agreement," he said. "We are planting a tree and we expect it to be very strong, to remain well rooted and not to be blown away by any gust of wind whatsoever," he stressed in reference to the attacks the sovereignty process is currently undergoing.
