The discrimination of the Catalan language. 19th Century
· 1801 Manuel de Godoy bans any theater to play anything but pieces in the Spanish language.
· 1802 After the fall of Minorca under the jurisdiction of the Spanish state for the desertion of the English, the Spanish Captain General of the island orders immediately the education only in the Spanish language.
· 1816 the representative Morera defends a proposition to guarantee the free use of the Catalan language in all spheres. Romanones answers that the equal recognition is unacceptable and the proposal presented by the Catalan representative is vanquished in the Congress, 120 votes to 13.
· 1821 The Quintana Plan forces the use of the Spanish language in the school system.
· 1825 The Colomarde Plan tries to introduce the official standarised education in Spanish: the Catalan language is banned at schools.
· 1828 The bishop of Girona forces to have the parish books written in Spanish.
· 1834 The instruction Moscoso de Altamira forces the use of the Spanish language in the school system.
· 1837 A royal edict imposes degrading punishments to the children speaking Catalan in school. At the same time, the instruction of the Superior Politic Government of the Balearic Islands orders to punish the schoolchildren found speaking in Catalan. They used the denunciation among students.
· 1838 The Regulation Vallgornera forces the use of the Spanish language in the school system.
· 1838 Banned the use of epitaphs in Catalan.
· 1843 Organic Law of the Normal Schools of Primary Education of the Spanish Kingdom that contains in the obligatory curriculum the Spanish Grammar and History and notions of Spanish Literature, etc.
· 1857Moyano Law of public instruction that authorises only the Spanish in schools.
· 1862 Law of body of notaries that bans the public deeds in Catalan.
· 1867 Prohibition that theatrical plays are written only and exclusively in the “dialects of the provinces of Spain”, by the Spanish Minister of Government González Bravo.
· 1870 Law of Civil Registry that bans the use of the Catalan language in their offices.
· 1881 Rules of criminal procedure that forbides the use of the Catalan language in the courts.
· 1896 The General Direction of the Post Office bans the use of Catalan
