On 29th June, thanks to Catalan National Assembly in London (ANC London) and Catalans UK, the Catalan expat community living in London and its surroundings were given the opportunity to enjoy a historic evening in an open and joyful atmosphere. The event, to watch the Concert for Freedom live in a centric pub near Piccadilly, gathered many Catalans, those that just moved in from Catalonia, those settled in the area for a long while, and others that were just visiting the capital for a few days. In an atmosphere full of respect, comradeship and appreciation for this historic moment, we all sang popular songs, applauded speeches from artists, interventions from several European politicians showing support to Catalonia’s right to decide their own future, and stood up to sing the Catalan’s national anthem, Els Segadors.

This is ANC London’s first official event following the official introductory session as an ANC branch in London, last Tuesday, 25th June hosted by the Catalan Society of the London School of Economics and, in both events, we were very impressed by the large attendance and the spirit of the Catalans gathered, which proves that ANC has a key role to play here in London. All those, Catalans or not, who wish to share their views and contribute to promote Catalonia’s right for freedom are more than welcome to join us.
The Catalan National Assembly in London could not have started better, the Concert for Freedom was a total success, and the next few months promise to be very intense indeed.
