A senior official of Spain’s ruling conservative party (PP) describes those who took part in the human chain for independence for Catalonia as “murderers”

The city councillor of Lleida, Pau Pintó Torné, shared in his Facebook wall – although he erased it later – that “people from Bildu, Amaiur, Aralar, Sortu together with CiU, ERC, PSC and generally everyone who went to the separatist human chain are murderers”.


Afterwards he added the sentence “you have neither shame nor dignity sepaRATS”, therefore describing the participants in the Catalan human chain also as rats.


This behaviour on the net joins the list of other comments by some other PP leaders, such as the one made by number 2 of “Marca España” (the campaign to promote Spain internationally), who resigned after tweeting “shitty Catalans, they don’t deserve anything”, due to the whistling against the Spanish hymn being played in the opening ceremony of Swimming World Cup in Barcelona.


Social pressure in Catalonia for independence is growing all the time, and the majority of Spanish politicians are showing they don’t have enough capacity to respond to this pressure with dialogue and the rational arguments society is demanding.
