Absolute majority for referendum

Today, the Parliament of Catalonia approved with an absolute majority, a motion to request authorization to call a referendum on the independence of Catalonia from the Spanish Congreso or parliament.

The motion was made by a broad group of regional parties, from the Christian Democrats, through liberals, to left-wing republicans and Greens. It was opposed by the two major Spanish national parties.
