Catalan Government jailed by Spain

Eight sacked Catalan ministers have been jailed today by a Spanish judge over the region's push for independence. Rest of the Government is in Brussels. Prosecutors had asked the high court judge to jail eight of the nine former government members who turned up for questioning in Madrid.
Spain's state prosecutor has requested a European arrest warrant for ousted Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont and four others who did not show up.

The politicians face charges of sedition, rebellion and misuse of public funds for their fulfill of the electoral programm : declaration of independence last week. This is not the first time Spain jails a Catalan Government. In 1934 a "Republican and democratic" Government did the same. Two years later a Popular Front won in the ballot and the Government was freed.

Spain's state attorney José Manuel Maza announced on Monday (30 October) that he would ask for the charges to be brought against senior members of Puigdemont's former administration, including the speaker of the Catalan parliament, Carme Forcadell.
