The People's Unity Candidacy Party is organizing this press conference
to speak about the situation in Spain and more precisely in Catalonia.
Since 2012, Catalonia is engaged in a self-determination process by
leading consultations with the people aiming at holding a referendum;
the most recent has taken place on 1 October 2017.
With a participation of 43.3%, a majority of 2.033.038 voted for
independence of Catalonia from the Spanish State. The referendum took
place in a context of repression and police violence.
Catalonia is at a stalemate. Which are the stakes today to come out of
it peacefully? What is the role of the international community in front
of this regression of rights and liberties in the Spanish State?
David Fernàndez, former member of the Catalan Parliament, Popular Unity
Candidacy (CUP): "The Spanish state is concealing and manipulating
what's happening in Catalonia, and it's doing it in front of the UN
Human Rights Council. King Felipe VI has become the king of the People's Party and
Ciudadanos, and comes to Catalonia in his capacity as 'king of clubs',
as we saw last Sunday. All the institutions of the Spanish state (including Felipe VI) are at
the service of the Spanish nationalist project and the unity of Spain,
and they use violence to implement this political project."
