Human Mosaic in Montserrat to Demand Freedom for Catalan Hostages

The Defense Committees of the Republic (Comitès de Defensa de la República, CDR) and various local entities around the mountain have demanded the freedom for Jordi Sànchez, Jordi Cuixart, Oriol Junqueras and Joaquim Forn in an action  in Montserrat. From the Catalan language meaning, “serrated mountain”, Montserrat is a stark contrast from the nearby metropolis of Barcelona. The city is energetic, vibrant, and outgoing. Montserrat is relaxing, serene, and introspective.

The mountains are also known to be a special, mystical place for the local Catalan people. It’s home to the statue of the Virgin Mary of Montserrat, who’s known to perform numerous miracles, attracting millions of pilgrims all over the world. Montserrat has an ancient history with religion, dating back when Romans constructed a temple to worship Venus. Later, it became tied to Christianity as hermit monks built several hermitages around the mountain. in 1025, the Santa Maria de Montserrat monastery was built and began attracting pilgrims, who witnessed and proclaimed the miracles performed by the Virgin of Montserrat.

Some 150 people have made a mosaic that at the touch of Timbal (Catalan drum) has marked the days that lead to prison, 117 some and 100 others. One of the participants was the sister of Catalonia's President Carles Puigdemont. Then, the mosaic, of 100 square meters, has composed the motto of "Freedom Political Prisoners" in Catalan language.
