The President of Catalonia, Quim Torra, yesterday visited Northern Catalonia, under French rule. In Perpignan he was very well welcomed by hundreds and took "the pulse of Northern Catalonia", insisted
that "we'll always be at the negotiating table". He met with
Perpignan's mayor, Jean-Marc Pujol, who received him with a yellow ribbon and and the president of the
Pyrénées-Orientales departmental council, Hermeline Malherbe, also with a yellow ribbon.
The President, who urged Spain to present his proposal for
Catalonia, reiterated his willingness "to meet with everyone" and his
wish "to obey the Catalan Parliament". "I would have a problem if I were
to not do that", he said, adding that he hasn't seen "gestures of
dialogue" from the Spanish executive.
Torra visited the exhibition 'Ballot boxess. 55 artists for freedom ', which arrived to Perpignan after having passed through Brussels. He also visited the Catalan Dragons, a rugby club from Perpignan who recently won the European Championship and the Catalan language schools from La Bressola. Finally the President demonstrated in the Castillet (little castle) with the banner 'Free Political prisoners and Exiles'.
