Thousands of Catalans stop the homage to Spanish police who beat voters on October 1st, 2017

Popular self-organisation was a success. It was organized to stop the supremacist march as apology of terrorist violence. The Spanish police convoked a demonstration in Barcelona yesterday.  The main aim of the march, organized by Spanish police union Jusapol, wass the homage to the police who attacked the Catalan population the democratic referendum on October 1, just one year ago. However, the police were unable to find the ballot boxes or to attack all polling stations, so the referendum was finally successful with a participation of 2,100,000 people, of which 90% voted for independence.

The brutality of the police in Spain is almost weekly, yesterday was not an exception

Around 6,000 people took the St James Square where the march should begin. The supremacists, around 400 policemen, went to the Spanish police central station in Via Laietana. Another 3,000 people cut this street to stop their march too. In this stree Catalan police attacked the antifascists with brutal charges. Finally the Spanish policemen dressed in Carnival regalia, marched to Catalonia Square. Another 4,000 people appeared in this square too and surrounded the supremacists who were protected by the Catalan police through the streets until they took their buses and returned to Spain.

In all these actions the Catalan police (Mossos d'Esquadra) attacked the Catalan protesters in several places causeing 14 injured and arresting six people. The Candidacy of Popular Unity (CUP) has demanded the resignation of the Home Catalan Minister for letting Fascists march in the center of Barcelona in a clear provocation, protecting them and causing injuries to peaceful demonstrators.
