Puigdemont and Ai Wei Wei conversation in Brussels on ‘Democracy or Tirany’

Chinese artist Ai Wei Wei and Catalan President Carles Puigdemont yesterday meet in Brussels. Both took part in the conversation "Democracy or Tyranny?" at the Maison Grand-Place (Brussels). Ai Wei Wei said that ‘On Human Rights and freedom of speech we cannot have double standards. Now, Catalan political presoners are treated as if they were political prisoners in China’. "Freedom is not a given condition, every day we need a lot of people to defend these values" both said pointing out the danger posed to European democracy by having double standards regarding human rights. EU must raise the human rights in China.

“Democracy only survives when is able to change itself to new conditions” said the Chinese artist and "fundamental right are the most important tool that we have in Europe” the Catalan exiled President. About the Catalan Political Prisoners, Wei considers that "are treated just as they would be treated in China (...) double standards are not acceptable on Human Rights or freedom of speech”.
