Spanish police detains two Catalan mayors

Spanish police officers detained both the Verges Mayor, Ignasi Sabater, and Celrà's Mayor, Dani Cornellà. Both have been detained at early morning and are accused of public disorder. The CUP informed that six civilians of the CDR (Committees in Defence of teh Republic) were also arrested. The CDR and the CUP (Candidacy for Popular Unity) have organized a concentration of support with the detainees in front of the police station of Girona.

Lawyer Benet Salellas has reported that during the arrest of Sabater, the agents did not explain to what facts the accusation of public disorder was concerned. Salellas also denounced that an agent did not let him enter the police station of Girona because he said he did not understand if he spoke in Catalan. "I do not understand the expression:" I'm a lawyer, I'm going to attend a detainee" if it is in Catalan, he said.
