Double Victory for Catalan Independentist forces both in European and Local elections

Together for Catalonia (JxCat) won the May 26th European elections with 987,149 votes meaning a 28,5 %. Second comet he pro Spanish PSOE lead by the former FA Minister Jose Borrell. Borrell was defeated with only 766,107. His defeat is worst because the third force, Ahora Repúblicas, also pro independence obtained 733,401 votes meaning a 21,2 %. With this results pro independece parties obtained a 50 %. Carles Puigdemont was elected as well as former health Catalan Minister Toni Comín.

Yesterday there were local elections too and the victory was for the pro independence parties. Catalonia’s Republican Left (ERC) was the most voted party with a 23,51 %. Together for Catalonia won in most villages: 376 while ERC was first in 344. Pro independence parties win in 737 out of 948 villages (77,7 %), while pro Spanish win in 99 only a 10,4 %, the rest is for independent local lists (some of them independentists too). Moreover the more radical annexionists parties are crushed. Cs won in none and Vox obtained only 3 local councillors out of 8100...a 0,04 %. PP decreases from 215 councillors to 68, Cs obtained 237, up from 175 and Vox 3. So, all together radical unionists down from 390 councillors to 308 meaning a 3,8 %.



In the other side pro independence Catalan forces are stronger than ever. They grow from 1,400,000 to 1,561,000 votes and from 6,098 to 6,199 local councillors in spite of the division in four different lists: ERC, JxCat, CUP and Primàries). The first one, leftist, win 3077 councillors, the second one, centrist 2766, CUP, anticapitalist, 334 and Primàries, centrist too, 22. ERC won in Barcelona and Ernest Maragall could be the first pro independence mayor of the city. The party also won in Lleida for first time. In Girona JxCat won a clear majority and pro independence forces obtained a 65 %. In Tarragona there is a tipe between pro Spanish PSOE and pro Catalan ERC.
