Roger Español, a man who lost an eye to a rubber bullet shot by a police officer in the 2017 referendum, will run as a candidate for the Spanish Senate for Junts per Catalunya (Together for Catalonia JxCat). He has become a symbol of the October 1 referendum, and his blind eye a reminder of the police operation that left hundreds of voters injured while trying to stop the vote.
Today in Barcelona Roger Español said: "The past elections presented myself* trying to bring to politics everything that I have gathered these two years in the streets: a majority cry of unity. We will work together with the Laura Borràs and with JxCat so that this unit is productive and effective. JxCat is the one who has given more to this idea of unity. Unit that has to be directed towards the achievement of the Catalan Republic, the end of the repression and the acquittal and repair of the damage to all the political prisoners , exiled and reprisals by the Spanish State ".
