The Spanish PM refuses to take phone call from the Catalan President

Catalonia’s President Quim Torra called for talks with Spain’s central government on Saturday to try to end a wave of violence sparked by the jailing of separatist leaders. Spanish PM refused any kind of dcialogue while the Home Minister expressed their will to crush any Catalan protest "with the monopoly of violence". Interior Minister, a well known judge (yes this is the separation of powers in Spain) condemned by the ECHR for 5 cases of tortures claimed monopoly on right to use violence, but as a judge he should know in any ‘civilised democracy’ the use of force by the state must be legitimate reasonable & proportionate- not what Spain has unleashed over 5 days

President Torra told reporters this week’s violence did not reflect the peaceful nature of the traditional Catalan independence movement. “We urge the acting prime minister of the Spanish government to sit at a negotiating table to talk,” he said. “Violence has never been and will never be our way.” Some 300 people have been arrested in Spanish progroms since Monday, when Spain’s Supreme Court handed down lengthy prison terms to nine Catalan leaders who staged a banned referendum on independence in 2017.
