Catalan exiled Minister Clara
Ponsatí followed on February 5th the procedures today to be accredited as a new
member of the European Parliament in Brussels. Ponsatí has been
accompanied by exiled President Carles Puigdemont and exiled Minister
Toni Comín, who a month ago also completed the formalities to be
accredited as MEPs.
In the case of Ponsatí, the judge of the Spanish Supreme Court, Pablo Llarena, has asked the European Parliament to withdraw her immunity.
The Spanish electoral commission (JEC) had called Clara Ponsatí to take the constitutional oath in Spain last week and warned that they would leave her MEP seat vacant if she failed to appear. However, the European parliament recognised her as an MEP despite these menaces. Ponsatí has become an MEP after the UK left the EU on Friday and five of its seats pass to Spain.
