Around 1,000 people demonstrated in Perpignan to demand freedom of expression, protect the Catalan language, and reject the historical Treaty of the Pyrenees during the Diada de la Catalunya Nord (Northern Catalonia Day). Protesters marched from Plaça Catalunya to the Palace of the Kings of Majorca despite sudden route changes imposed by French authorities. The crowd voiced demands for self-determination, identity, and linguistic rights, chanting slogans such as "We are not French, we are Catalan". The political party Unitat Catalana marked its 40th anniversary by reiterating its push for a specific autonomous region in Northern Catalonia, citing a recent poll showing 74% local support. Representatives from Junts per Catalunya also attended to support making Catalan an official EU language.
Boycott in Elna and Ribesaltes Gathering:
A town hall event intended to mark the Treaty of the Pyrenees was heavily boycotted by local groups who viewed it as an imperialist provocation. Only 5 people attended the official event, while roughly 100 people gathered outside to protest against it.A separate cultural gathering and community lunch took place in Ribesaltes, organized by local cultural associations.
The Perpignan Manifesto
The group Fem Catalunya Nord presented a joint manifesto signed by regionalist and nationalist organizations from several stateless territories currently under French administration:
• Fem Catalunya Nord (Catalan Countries)
• Comuna! (Occitania)
• EH Bai (Basque Country)
• Core in Fronte (Corsica)
• Coordinació per un Front Revolucionari Bretó (Brittany)
