The Spanish Government Response: more money for military equipment

The response of the Spanish government to the massive march on September 11th was given the same day. The Spanish Parliament decided to approve an extraordinary credit of 1,7 billion euros, which was solely set aside for military equipment. This amount represents more than a third of the bailout that Catalonia has requested to the Spanish Government to survive. Every year the difference between the sum of benefits generated in Catalonia, obviously automatically sent to the Spanish Treasury, and the amount the Spanish Government sends back for investments, is around 16 billion euros. Moreover, Catalonia is only asking for a loan of 5 billion euros to be able to face up payments.

This sum means a new extraordinary item, approved without any logical reason. Not only this, but the “official” budget for the Ministry of War also managed to forecast a debt payment of 5 billion euros, although there was a previous one of 2,3 billion euros. This huge debt has been caused by Spain, officially bankrupted and even closer to get a bail out, by lying and spending over 20 billion million euros in military equipment: more or less 50 million euros per day! It has to be pointed out that with this new extraordinary credit the military debts are not being cancelled. The Spanish government has already got a mortgage in military expenses for the amount of 30 billion euros due in 2040. Indeed, the Spanish government has increased its military debt by 30%, suspiciously the same percentage that has been cut down in unemployment welfare.
The mentioned extraordinary credit was approved by a Royal Decree Law, a legal formula used to accelerate the ordinary procedure. This sort of law is used in pressing situations. On September 11th, the Spanish government decided that increasing its defense budget by 30% was urgent. The credit will be used to buy equipment from specialized companies. We are talking about the air-bombing Eurofighter program; Leopard tanks from General Dynamics Santa Barbara; Navantia warships, and Tiger helicopters from Eurocopter. All this weaponry can be used against civilians. In August 2012, the Spanish government authorized the purchase of 772 military lorries to be used in a land operation. Not even a reason was given for this.
