Sant Jordi's Day in Toronto (ONT), Canada

The legend
Once upon a time, there was a town terrified by a dragon. The beast demanded a maiden per week to eat, and one day, it was the princess' turn to be offered to the dragon. The young Knight Jordi heard about the princess' fate and decided to save her. He fiercely fought the dragon and while the creature fell mortally wounded, something amazing happened: from the blood on the ground a beautiful rose grew. Jordi picked the flower and gave it to the pricess as a sign of his love, and they lived happily ever after.
The celebration
Sant Jordi (Saint George) is the patron of Catalonia, and we Catalans use this story to celebrate our love day the 23rd of April, on the Saint day. To do so, we offer roses and books to our lovers and loved ones. For most of us it is one of the most special days of the year back home, and we would like to bring a little of its spirit to Toronto, and share it with you all. We have prepared a day full of activities for all, and we would love you to join us in as many of them as you like.
