During the last race for the Moto Grand Prix held at Circuit of Catalonia (Montmeló) on June 16th, part of the audience booed the Spanish anthem when the trophy was being handed to the winner Jorge Lorenzo. That was not the first time the public had demonstrated negatively to Spanish national symbology at Montmeló. The victory of Llúis Salom in Moto3, Pol Espargaró in Moto2, and Jorge Lorenzo in MotoGP made it so the Spanish anthem would be played three times in total. As has become usual, the Spanish anthem was booed by part of the Catalan audience.
However, what was not usual was that the secretary of the main Spanish police union, Mr. José Manuel Sánchez Fornet answered with the following unbelievable words on Twitter:
“Disgusting booing directed at Jorge Lorenzo and the Spanish anthem. Long live Spain. All those who hate us can go to hell. Catalonia is Spain. Low-lifes.”
José Manuel Sánchez Fornet is the secretary of the main Spanish police union (SUP), which represents up to 30,000 police officers and is considered as a moderate and progressive wing of the Spanish police force. It is appalling to see such a public figure threatening and insulting the very civilians he’s sworn to protect just for exercising their freedom of speech.
His original insults in Spanish are even stronger: "Motherf***ers" and "Pieces of sh**.
