The parliamentary spokesman for the Partido Popular (PP) has stated “there will be no referendum”.
The spokesman of the PP, Alfonso Alonso, has already spoken out against the agreement reached this Thursday to hold a referendum on 9 November 2014. Alonso specifically stated that the state will “adopt all measures to prevent it.”
Furthermore the PP spokesman confirmed that this referendum is made “impossible” by the fact that “neither law nor constitution permit it and Spain is ruled by law.”
At the same time he warned Mas that “he is moving away from his functions in a dangerous way” and he stressed that this is a “serious” affair. He went on to say that if this were not the case, it would seem more of a request for Father Christmas than a question for a referendum.
