In spite of the rain, 2,000 people attended yesterday the first day of the political festival in support of former CUP (Candidacy of Popular Unity) deputy, Anna Gabriel, in her hometown, Sallent. Yacine, Dogs, Smoking Souls, Tribade, Auxiliary, Zoo and Pirat's Sound System have been commissioned to kick-start the two-day solidarity festival, which seeks to help Gabriel. Previously to music, a discussion was held between Gabriel's attorney, Olivier Peter, and the ex-deputy and member of the CUP secretariat, Mireia Vehí. During the conversation Peter remarked that 'despite the fact that it will take years' will end up condemning in Spain'. Peter explained to the audience that Gabriel is 'well' and thanked for the samples of support he is receiving, especially from his hometown. He said that the ex-deputy had "made many contacts" that have allowed him to report "the violation of rights by the Spanish state" in places like the UN, a fact that is "bothering them," he said. Peter insisted on the importance of the mobilizations and the work that politicians are doing outside and stressed that the European courts' are key. "The European Court of Human Rights and Strasbourg is a long way, which can take a decade, but this international recognition is very important." In this sense, he said that despite the fact that 'today the Spanish government can condemn, tomorrow will be the international jurisdictions that will condemn the Spanish state'.
The 'The answer' (La Resposta) festival is organized by the campaign
'Free Anna Gabriel' and the group Sallent Respon. The benefits will go to the solidarity resistance box with Anna Gabriel and to the campaign 'We are all anti-fascist', in solidarity with six accused to attack members of the extreme right on October 12, 2013.
The festival will continue on Saturday at noon with the presentation of the anthology of speeches and lectures by Anna Gabriel 'We will talk about life!', Led by Natxo Calatayud, militant of the house Terra de Benimaclet, València, and ex-deputies of the CUP Isabel Vallet and David Fernàndez. Below is a solidarity vermouth with 'Mirada Violeta', a poetic-musical spectacle with Meritxell Gené and Aina Torres, which will give way to a popular lunch. In the afternoon, the political act will be carried out with Txell Bonet, the companion of Jordi Cuixart; Ester Baiges, member of the Network for the detention of relatives of detainees; Josep Manel Busqueta, pastry and economist, and Isabel Vallet.
