The grassroots pro independence movement Catalan National Assembly (ANC) celebrated today its 7th General Assembly in Tarragona city. Hundreds of participants from all over Catalan territories as well as international guests dicussed a new roadmap towards independence. It was ratified including a new point: A vote over 50% plus one vote, to pro independence parties, in voters and not in MPs, in the coming Catalan elections should trigger an official declaration of Catalonia's independence.
The roadmap reaffirmed the unilateral way, the strategic unit between Government, Parliament and mobilized citizenship and the nonviolent struggle. The new roadmap, broadly approved, contemplates three scenarios:
- a referendum agreed with the State
- a forced referendum,
- the unilateral way, it would be necessary to implement the laws of transitory nature, to release the prisoners, to prepare the return of the exiles and to request the recognition of the new Catalan Republic in the world.
Elisenda Paluzie: No more excuses
In his speech, the President of the Assembly, Elisenda Paluzie, was pleased to have approved this new roadmap, which reaffirms the entity on the unilateral road. And she has warned the political parties: in case of upcoming elections, if more than 50% of pro-independence votes are exceeded, there will be no "excuses", it will be necessary to proclaim independence.Paluzie referred to the great strength that supposes that 80% of the Catalan population is in favor of a referendum, but nevertheless emphasized that this majority becomes "sterile" if it does not become a clear and explicit support in favor of independence Thus, he has asked to turn the pro-independence political project into a proposal, and to re-establish the independence of the table.
"The Catalans will have to show who has the control of the territory in Catalonia, that we are the Catalans", Clara Ponsati
Carles Puigdemont, president of the Generalitat in exile, has made a sharp defense of 1-O, which has considered it a "founding culture" of the Catalan Republic, and has found that the Spanish State has a single priority: to have the Catalans forget and renounce everything that represented the 1-O.It has also been possible to hear the voice of Clara Ponsatí, who has said that during the months that will come, repression, imprisonment and exile have only reinforced the determination of the Catalans to be free. And he has made a warning: independence will not be possible without effective civil disobedience, and it will be necessary to prepare to be strategic. "The Catalans will have to show who has the control of the territory in Catalonia, that we are the Catalans," she concluded.
From Brussels, Toni Comín praised the role of the Assembly in recent years, and has predicted that, as of now, there will be a new key player for this new period that has been opened since the referendum of 1-O, the Council for the Republic, that will have to materialize and make the mandate effective.
