“Pathway to the Republic”: 5 Catalan activists 1,300 Kilometers Walk to visit Carles Puigdemont

The Awareness-Raising 1,300 Kilometers Walk From Pyrenees to Belgium began on 24 March 2019. That day five Catalan activists started a journey, which they called “Camí a la República”, or “Pathway to the Republic”, walking 1,300 kilometers from the Eastern Pyrenees to Belgium.

The aim is to raise awareness on the situation in Catalonia, especially in the context of forthcoming Spanish and European elections and the current trial of Catalan leaders. With an average of 30 kilometers a day, Rai López @RaiLopezCalvet and his team carried a ballot box and invited people he met on his way to sign a ballot asking the European authorities to defend the Catalans’ right to self-determination. The five ended their journey in Waterloo, Belgium, where they were received by Carles Puigdemont.
