86 % of Catalan local councils, including Barcelona, vote to reject the Spanish Inquisition Sentence

815 out of 948. Barcelona City Council has voted today_

-  to reject the Supreme Court's sentence of pro-independence leaders 
- and call for their release. 

Among them grassroots activists Jordi Cuixart who has said today that "I am in jail for defending human rights. Spanish authorities have set a precedent that criminalizes any form of dissent through a non-violent action."  Cuixart chairs Omnium Cultural, an organization founded in 1961 to defend Catalan culture under the Franco dictatorship, when public use of the Catalan language was banned. He does not represent a political party. Seven of the nine leaders were active politically in autumn 2017, when they and others defied courts by organizing an independence referendum.
