The PP and C’s, the main unionist parties in the Catalan parliament, do not vote on a motion to condemn fascism

The pantomime that took place in Parliament on October 10th, when the PPC’s and Ciutadans’ representatives left the chamber, highlighted that both parties refused to support the motion to condemn fascism that was being discussed.

The “Historical memory motion” proposed the condemnation of fascism; that the Spanish government’s delegate in Catalonia, Llanos de Luna, resign for having given recognition to the División Azul (Blue Division); and for giving explicit support to the “Argentinian court case” with regard to Lluís Companys’s assassination. .

The incident ended when the PPC’s and Ciutadans’ MPs left the chamber just when the vote was about to take place. Therefore, with the absence of both unionist parties’ members, the proposal was adopted by 105 votes in favour and one against. The only vote against significantly came from a PP representative. Unlike his colleagues, Calbó (PP) remained in the chamber as a member of the board and, with his vote, he underlined his party’s position on the condemnation of fascism.
